So what have I been up to lately…?

By Paul Wilson

Hey guys,

I haven’t posted here for a few days, so thought I would post a quick update on what I have been up to for the last week or so!

WELL…

video-ads-rssI’ve updated my blog with a slightly better video than the last, although it’s still not perfect…

The last one had my web address right across the entire video and people said they couldn’t see my ugly mug…

SO I thought I’d put up a new one…

It’s just over to the right, so I HOPE it’s better :-)

Apart from this, I have been concentrating on driving traffic and list building.

I have mainly been commenting on other peoples blogs, and commenting on forums to help drive traffic back to my blog.

This seems to be starting to pay off as the traffic is now GROWING steadily!

mybloglog

If you haven’t already…

I would recommend you head over to MyBlogLog.com

AND install the little widget on your blog.

Mine is down the bottom of the page there somewhere!

This is driving anywhere between a couple of visits to around 10 visits a day, as each time I visit a blog with this installed my picture appears at the top with a link through to my site…

VERY powerful I think you’ll agree ?

jv-giveawaysI have also been joining every giveaway I can lay my hands on to help build my list. I am not getting tons of opt-ins from this, but hey, it’s growing steadily so I can’t complain. (Not that I’m impatient or anything…!)

I am going to add a giveaway page to my blog over the next few days, and I will post ALL of the giveaways I can find.

Feel free to head back and take a look.

Also, if you find any that I haven’t, be sure to let me know as I am starting to use these in a BIG way!

I am planning on doing a Press Release at prweb.com this week or early next…

I will be tracking my results carefully and will post here as soon as I have anything to share :-)

Finally, I have just discovered today that there are a few guys going to a conference in London this weekend which I am hoping to get to also. I know Alex Jeffreys and Gary Parkes are going, and a few of the students so it will be so cool to actually meet these guys after all this time…and no doubt we’ll have a few beers in the process…

I will make sure I get some pics, and some video if I can… :-)

As always, your comments are appreciated!

Until next time,

Paul

Yeah, I did think about writing it, but decided my time was better spent elsewhere rather than learning the right format etc…

I have already outsourced it I’m afraid. I have found an excellent source for that kind of thing, and am really pleased with the quality produced.

I always give the hair a trim every few days, I don’t have enough to let it grow long…! :-)

    Hey Paul,

The new video looks good, I really like how you do your videos, I’ll have to see if I can try and copy your style when I next make one. :D

I’ve not been getting quite so many visits from MyBlogLog, most of my traffic comes from Twitter, Facebook and the Warrior Forum. Do you get this MyBlogLog traffic on autopilot, or do you add contacts and join communities? I’ve started to try and add all AJ students, that have a MyBlogLog community. I just added you by the way. :)

As for GiveAways, I need to start joining in on these. So far I’ve only signed up to one, but I had trouble getting referrals as my list too small yet. I’m working on a gift package then I’ll be joining a couple soon. Do you have any tips and suggestions for getting referrals so I can keep my gift showing longer?

    Cheers!

    Paul.

    • Paul Wilson says:

      Hey Paul,

I see your Alexa ranking is getting better, obviously your plan is working :-)

I have added a few people to MyBlogLog, but only a handful. Some days are better than others, but I don’t actively do anything with it. It could just be from other students seeing my ugly face on their blog, and reminding them to stop by :-D

As far as the Giveaways go, I have been emailed by a couple due to not promoting them, but I’m sure they don’t all operate that way. I did send one to my list and got quite a few signups, but don’t want to do that on a regular basis either.

I was trying to come up with a way a group of us could get together and join underneath each other to make sure we stay active. Doing it this way, only one person would lose out each time.

I haven’t come up with a solution to manage it though…any ideas?

Apart from that, just tweet out the links etc

      Take care

      Paul

      • Paul Lear says:

Yes my Alexa ranking seems to be improving without me doing much recently, I’ve just done an update post on it, which I see you’ve already commented on. :)

After I joined a few communities on MyBlogLog the other night, I got about 5 new vistors from there. So I guess that works if you do it often, plus others in those communities seem to notice you and sometimes visit you I’ve found.

The GiveAway group sounds good, maybe we could set something up in the MWA forum? You’d just have to speak to Garry Parkes first to make sure it’s ok. If he says it’s ok, that could work out well.

I’m thinking have a separate forum section for giveaways, someone starts a thread for each giveaway. Then each person signs-up under the last persons link and leave a reply with their link.

It might work, it might not. But like I said, we’d have to see if it’s OK to do it first.

But how many sign-ups do you think we need, to keep our gift showing?

        Paul.

        • Paul Wilson says:

          Hey Paul,

Yeah, that could work. I’m not sure how many you need to get a decent ranking. The last one I promoted, I got around 10 signups and still only made it to page 6 :-(

The forum option could work, but we’re still only going to get 1 each, which is probably ok to keep you in the program, but not great for your ranking.

I’ll see if I can find out from Gary about it though, it’s gotta be worth a shot :-)

          Talk soon,

          Paul
P.S. You got your skype set up yet?

          • Paul Lear says:

            Hi again! :D

Oh yes, almost forgot about Skype. Well ok, not really, it’s one of those things that is a little bit out of my comfort zone…

So you guessed it? I was putting it off I suppose, like I did with videos.

But I know Skype is nowhere near as nerve racking as doing videos. It’s only a phone call..lol So I’ll get it set up tomorrow. I’ll make it a do, or die task!! :D

I’ll PM you my ID or whatever it is, over at the MWA forum, okay?

            Paul.

Most of us just use skype for the text chat so it’s not too bad. It’s just a handy way of keeping in touch, you don’t have to use the voice if you don’t want to :-)

            Paul

  8. Hi Paul,

I’d also like to thank you for the tip about MyBlogLog. At a time when I am grateful for any of the traffic that is coming my way that’s a great wee tip.

I’d love to hear more about your progress as I seem to be just behind you in everything. Still struggling to get a video up and running and working the giveaways with no real successes so far. I hope we can come up with an idea as you mentioned.

I’d like to be a part of that.

Good luck in London and best wishes.

I have a couple of other List Building things in the pipeline that I am doing a bit more testing on for a couple of weeks before posting here, so I’ll let you know how it goes.

I’m still thinking on the giveaways. They are producing results, but not at any great rate. I have a couple of ideas on this also but I need to test them.

I’ll post here with some more ideas soon :-)

  9. James Howard says:

    Hey Paul,

So this is where all the MyBlogLog widgets started sprouted up from.

I joined a while ago but not long added the widget after seeing it so many more blogs.

As for the giveaways, you don’t need to get signups to keep it active,as long as you are promoting your refferal link your gift will stay active. I did have a warning to promote one once and ignored it.

Next email said “your gift is suspended, you must promote the giveaway to stay active”

I just copied my refferal link into my browser and my gift was active again.(I do usually promote)

I had to test after all.

  10. Joe Fier says:

    Hey Paul,

Thanks for the great tips on here, man.

I’m going to sign up for MyBlogLog right after I’m done type this comment! I totally see the power of having your face on someone else’s blog. That and I’m always looking for more traffic to the good ‘ol blog.

And just like you have, I’ve been signing up for every Giveaway event I find. I’ve been receiving a steady 10+ per day from that alone. I’m really happy with those results, but I definitely would love to grow much faster! :)

    Talk soon buddy,
    Joe

    • Paul Wilson says:

      Hey Joe,

That’s cool, I see you now have it installed :-)

Yeah, the giveaways are starting to produce good results, but I am always looking for ways to speed up this process also…give me a shout if you find anything else that’s working for you!

      Take care,

      Paul

As with everyone else, thanks for the mybloglog tip – will sign up today!!

Have you looked at doing any Adswaps as yet as they are a good way to build your list, you can usually get involved with just a couple of hundred (check the Warrior forum or MWA2.0 forum for that matter) and responses tend to be quite good.

Will be interested to know how the Press Release works out – keep me posted or a blog post would be good!
