Is Video REALLY What You Want?

Well, it’s been nearly a month since my last post … (boy how time flies!) … and I just wanted to give you an update of my progress and my plans over the next few weeks …
My list is currently standing at just under 2200 subscribers 
I have pretty much been doing much of the same since my last post with regards to list building, and things are starting to move forward much quicker now …
As part of my listbuilding efforts, I have started offering Dean Holland’s “Google Traffic System” as part of my opt-in process. For those of you that know Dean, you will know the amount of time and effort that he has put into this … and that the quality is top notch, over delivering as always 
He is even including his entire coaching program for free as part of this. If you haven’t already, head over and at least grab the free interview that Dean has done with Lee McIntyre!!
This has resulted in 17 signups to his program in the last 3 weeks alone which is just awesome!
Over the next few weeks, I am planning on creating a video series to complement my ebook “7 Step Success Formula”. You can download this over to the right of the page if you haven’t already

The exact content of these videos is not entirely fixed at the moment, and I would like you to leave me a comment RIGHT HERE letting me know of things related to my book that you would like me to expand on. Wow, your list is really growing now, so the main thing I would like you to talk about in your videos is how you built it so fast!
As for Powerpoint or screen capture, perhaps you mix it up a bit and do some in Powerpoint, and show us some more hands on stuff with screen capture.

Well I would like to know your experience and mistakes you
have done with adswaps and list building in general.
2220 subscribers in just 100 days (when you also consider unsubscriptions) is just amazing!
Doing adswaps is great. My best day from adswaps(until now)
was 191 new subscribers!

Yes I have definitely made a few mistakes with adswaps, although many of them boil down to people lying about their list size etc, you know how it is

Hi Paul,
As you know the money IS in the list, so firstly i would create a powerpoint presentation and voice over of all the steps outlined in your book.
You would use this as an up sell for say $27 then if they buy that you can up sell again for $47 with resell rights.
This will benefit you two fold 1, you will be earning money from your up sells and 2, you will be positioning yourself and branding YOUR name and not anyone else.
I would also create a camtasia video each day with voice over, to explain and show what you are doing and how many op ins you are getting each day for 1 month.
You will then have your next product to sell !!! all with live proof.

Had a weird thing happen (only discovered it today and not sure how long it had been like that): EVERY internal link on my blog was returning a not found 404 error and the only thing working was the home page!
A bit of research sorted the problem (will be writing a short post about it just in case anyone else has the same problem.
I had a few emails from readers saying they couldn’t access pages to leave comments – sorry if you had trouble leaving a comment!!
LIST BUILDING is without a doubt one of the main pillars for online success and you seem to be doing great with it.
I’ll defo get in touch when I’m down your way next.

I would have to say on the video front I have to agree with Paul and Rob, why stick to one when you can do both, I do tend to go off and do other things when there is a power point presentation going on as some of them are a bit slow. (somtimes) Depending on who it is of course.

Glad to see your list building efforts are paying off.
As far as the videos go I like to see screen capture videos by Camtasia or other similar software. I don’t really care for the Powerpoint videos because to me they’re more like audio rather than video. I don’t really want to listen to someone talk. I usually end up multi-tasking during Powerpoint presentations because there’s really no reason to be looking at your screen. Because of this I tend to get bored and don’t end up watching the whole thing.
I learn much more when I’m watching someone actually doing stuff step by step in a video.

Well done with the list building, you are doing really well. I am just short of the 2,000 mark myself and it’s only going to get easier for you to add new subscribers every day with a bigger list to leverage!
The videos sound a great idea and I think a combination of Powerpoint and screen capture would work the best. I think you should do an introduction with you facing the camera as well, that way you cover all bases haha.

Hi Paul,
What do I need help with? Where do I start? It seems like there are all kinds of videos on how to set up a domain name and the very beginning basics.
What about middle basics? Like how to make a power point video! I just watched a video on how to start up the software for a membership site and I was lost. I am going to have to watch that one again! HOw about using some of the software that you get for fr.e.e. , how to use and install. How can it help you!
I could go on and on with what I don’t know!
Even people that say they know some of this stuff, just might know it as well as they think! Thanks for asking! Just ask when you want some some ideas, I am really confused and not ashame to say so!

Nice work you’ve been doing with your list building. I read carefully the 7 steps and I’m starting myself to build my list.
I really don’t care if the videos are screen captures or powerpoint as long as they are clear and explanatory. But I would like to see in more detail how to research for a niche. Living outside of the English world, like me, I always have great pain choosing a niche, because in my country the trends are not exactly the same as in the US or UK. So if you could dig a little bit on how to find a good niche, I’ll appreciate.

I would like to know how to set up a Squeeze page giving away a free e-book on the web-site to collect name and email addresses. Then send the person to a OTO page followed by another OTO page ( if they do not take the first OTO ). Then set it up to have an auto responder send them info over a period of 10 days ( which is a 9 day class ) them send them to a questioner / survey to receive another free e-book.
With the one time offer’s being paid through a Paypal account.
Then i would like to set up a blog to upload videos to bring in a higher traffic rate.
So any help would be welcome !

I learn best by following along with the video, this way you can pause, rewind etc. to go over areas that
you either missed, or want to look at a second or third time. Easier to watch on my iphone also.

I’ve been working with newbies for about a year now, teaching the basics for free with online live classes. They have the basics, the domain the hosting and the autoresponder, but when it comes to actually getting out there and marketing their sites, they hit a brick wall.
Most of my students din’t do much with their computers except respond to a family member’s message asking them if they read the email they just sent them. So it’s been a long process to get them to see this piece of hardware as a tool.
Lot’s of people are looking for new ways to generate extra income and the internet is the next “Gold Rush” so to speak for them. Selling shovels isn’t as easy as they tell us though is it?
I’d love to share any and every training product you offer with my classes just like I do your autoresponder so keep it coming. Traffic is King and the Money is in the List….
It helps a lot if you have one…. LOL
My biggest problem with videos as teaching aids is the length of time it takes to get to any point. Usually it starts out with a
biographical rehash of all the failures reached to that point then it jumps to income made with the remarkable system. Usually by this time I am either nodding off or so bored I shut it off because there
will never be any substance given.
Make any training video short and sweet and to the point.
Mix up all types of video, concentrate one video on yourself facing the camera with a few screen shots.
I like the idea mentioned earlier about moving away from the very basics and concentrating on slightly more advanced items.
But the best training videos are the ‘over the shoulder’ camtasia style videos, you can then follow them at your own pace, without having to take notes.

I tried to find somebody except Dean Holland who completed this Alex “education” and started to make some money and failed.
Several guys responded and except “wow” they have nothing to declare.

Mate PowerPoint I think is more convenient as I am on wireless only and here in Oz its crap for downloading video.
Then again its all about focusing on the customer isnt it and yours may be blessed with access to high speed broadband in which case you have got to give them what they want.
Tough lunch for me then.

Hi Paul, re the Video Or Powerpoint,
A lot of people either don’t have the speed of ADSL
or are on a lower limit download limit[ such as Newbies),
& just about everything nowadays is Video, Video, Video,
Then all of a sudden you’ve chewed up your download limit.
I personally don’t like these websites where the Video is
automatically played; with no access to controls to turn it off;
& mostly the video is just repeating what is on the post anyway.
The way I would go is to put a powerpoint presentation in a PDF
with Links to Videos as a back up which people could watch if they wish to.

The one thing that is always on my mind is how can I get more traffic and build my list. I have tried it all and I am very technical but I have to admit there is a lot of traffic generation methods that I have tried that either flat out wasted my time or just did not pull leads like I though it should. I started in affiliate marketing, tried some mlm and now doing cash gifting but something I struggled with was not really having a budget to do paid marketing and not knowing where to start with free marketing. Starting out was really slow and painful and not seeing the results at first got me down. I think something that shows how to start and how to stay motivated would be great. I agree about camtasia, if you have it I would like to see camtasia video’s as well.

Congratulations on building your list so quickly, that’s something that I really need to do if I don’t want to be in the 97% of people who fail! I prefer to watch training on video and I really need to get more targeted traffic to my website.

As a general consensus, it appears that people want to see how you built your list so quickly! So, yes, I’m also in that boat.
I would also like to see what you (and other marketers) mean by leveraging the list you already have to gain more subscribers.
Thirdly, I would like to know how to promote money making offers to my list. I have already found quite a few affiliate programs via clickbank, shareasale, etc. But, now how do I promote these offers to my list and have them actually buy something?

I’ve got to echo the thoughts of Paul, Rob and others – mix it up with screen capture and PowerPoint/presentation slides – use the most appropriate style for what you’re sharing in any given part of the videos.
Also I’ve got to say that as you’re doing so well on the list building, and it seems to be an area that you’re excelling in, it’s a great one to share in your videos! As has already been said, both the successes and the hinderances you’ve experienced to get you to where you are today!

A couple of other people have asked about setting up thankyou pages and oto pages also, so I will try to add something in to help people get their head around how all this works and fits together.

It’s great to see you doing so well. Even Google likes your blog and is rewarding you with high ranking. Rank 5 for the home page is amazing and what is even more amazing is that your individual posts have significant rank too, like this one for example has rank 3.
This is very rare and I want to learn what you’re doing to achieve that besides what can bee seen on your blog.
As for the videos you’re working on I think I prefer screen capture and those showing a person speak but power point on occasion is OK.

The only think I can think that has enabled me to produce these results is the paid press release I did a few months ago. There seems to be a lot of sites linking into me, and this is the main reason. I have been doing the usual stuff to drive traffic also, so it seems to be a good combination
I should have the videos ready soon. Seem to have had a bit of time written off with Vegas etc, but will be fully into the swing of things again next week.
